Simple Guide to Determine How Many Yards of Fabric You Need for Draperies
1. Select a Fabric
While we recommend selecting a fabric from the drapery section of our website, certain fabrics in the apparel and upholstery fabrics sections can also be used for draperies.
2. Choose Fullness (how rich/gathered you want your curtains to look):
1.5× → tailored look
2× → standard (most common)
2.5× → full/luxurious
3. Calculate Total Width Needed: Window width (in inches) × fullness = total fabric width needed
4. Determine Number of Panels Needed: Total width needed ÷ width of your selected fabric → round up to the nearest full yard
5. Determine Height Per Panel Needed: Height of the space you are covering + 16–20 inches for hems
6. Convert to Yards: (number of panels × height per panel in inches) ÷ 36 → round up to the nearest full yard
